A commission for a friend who wanted a "steampunk French Horn" for the front of a recital program. I've never drawn a French Horn before, let alone a steampunk horn!

Addendum: This design is now available on mugs and t-shirts in my Cafepress shop.

Beautiful! Haha- I have no clue what the anatomy of a French horn is like, but well done! I'd love to see how your version of a steampunk violin is like. :)

Hmm, a steampunk violin would be more awkward - wind instruments don't really lend themselves to steampowered augmentation!

Thank you; it was a commission for a friend who plays French Horn. The piece was for the front of a program - she played a piece that was meant to be evocative of machinery and clockwork; a steampunk horn seemed to be just the ticket.

Oh my hell. I play the horn, and I've recently been obsessed with looking at steampunk stuff. You are my new best friend.
Oh right, critique. Generally horns like this have a pinky clutch on the big pipe under the three valves. Don't know if that counts...? Haha. Nice job!

Thanks; I had no idea about the pinky clutch - I don't actually play horn myself, so I was working from photographs and didn't spot that. Generally I usually stick to drawing instruments I can actually play or at least get my hands on, but I was doing this one in a hurry for a friend who needed an image for the program for an up-coming horn recital. I think when things are not quite so hectic for her, I shall need to borrow her horn so I can have a good look at it, work out where all the pipes go and take some sketches of it.

Thanks for the feedback - always appreciated! :)
